Dublin–based Maria Makrai takes the imagery and monumentalism of the Soviet era and uses it to examine the memories it arouses – both good and bad. Entitled GREAT FORGETTING, Makrai reflects on her childhood in the former communist Czechoslovakia, and the works have the propagandist idealism filtered through a knowing lens. The round shape and the directed gazes made Makrai's own through her delicate graphics and her colours. She shows the residue from these eras in their insubstantiality.
